December Grocery Totals and Savings Update

I had a total of $215.10 to spend this month($15.10 in rollover from last month $200 as the monthly starting budget). I am happy to say I have a whole $4.64 left over:). I wont be rolling over the left overs into the new year.

Retail value $974.04
spent $210.46
saved $763.58( savings of 78%)
coupon savings $401.62(savings of 41%)

I could have done better had my coupons been organized and my CVS and Walgreens trips been planned out. I am going to get my binder in shape and prepare my drugstore trips starting this weekend(hopefully:P).

Savings update

We added $161 to the savings account this month for a total of $837.21.We only need $162.79 more to reach our goal of $1000 by the end of January. We are saving this for when we move sometime early in the year(to provide a cushion for the new place's deposit and rent, and the moving truck). Once we complete this goal we can start on the new goals for 2009:)

Hi, I'm trying to save money by starting to use coupons. I found your blog and it's very helpful, thanks! I have a question you said you saved 71% but only 48% was coupons so how did you save the other 23%?

Susy,

The other 23% comes from store sales, clearances and special offers(like when you get an item free for buying another item) and from using gift cards I earned by transferring an RX, using the easy saver program at walgreens, or cashing in points at sites like mypoints.com- survey sites- or swag bucks.

I am glad you find the blog useful and good luck with saving money this year. I think you will surprise yourself with the amount of money you save:)

Hi! I finally got on and read your blog. You've inspired me to get back on track with saving and doing coupons. I hate spending any more than I have too.

PS mom would be so impressed :)

Question you mentioned a binder what do you use a binder for?

:) I am s so happy you came back! I use the binder to store my coupons. I have a zippered one and it is filled with baseball card holders. It is some much faster finding coupons this way.
