Last week was the first week in the Chipping away your grocery bill series. Below is a recap of Ops' shopping week
Ops mainly focused on getting her coupons cut and organized this week. Like me, she hadn't messed with them much since before Christmas. She was able to get to Walgreens for the Excedrin deal, but her RR didn't print. She has emailed them and is waiting for a response. She also got some of the electrosal that was free + overage after a manufacture coupon and ESR. They were out of the foil and she wasn't able to get a raincheck because of the fine print on the In ad coupon.
She went to Target to get some of the cat liter that was on sale. She misread the ad and thought she would get a $5 gift card for buying one container. When she went to get it she realized she would need to buy two containers to recieve the $5 card. She went ahead and bought one there since it was a better deal than Kroger. Ops' husband also decided to quit smoking this week. She bought him some nicotin patches, so that is why her total was so high.
Her numbers for 01/04-01/10 are:
Spent:$90.44
Saved:$67.88

Shannon left her update in the first post, so I am moving it over her for her so everyone can see it and give her any advice. Shannon, if you have any additional updates for last week feel free to add them:)
I think the CVS runs look great. The only advice I have for you on that is use transfer and new prescription coupons at the pharmacies if you have Rx's. then you will have some "free" money to play with.

Today's grocery trip wasn't as good as I was hoping for, but at least I didn't go over budget!
I went to Harris Teeter, they had several things buy 2 get 3 free! Also some good BOGO's plus I had coupons.
Total purchase: $164.46
Coupons/Sales: $81.64
Total OOP: $82.82
I also had a couple good runs at CVS.
Total purchase: $234.35
Coupons/Sales: $226.39
Total OOP: $7.96
I still need help to do better. Suggestions are welcome!
I also went to CVS today and got the following:
2 CVS baby wipes
2 B & J ice cream
4 buddy bars
4 newspapers
Total oop: $0.94
I really need some help organizing my coupons. How do you do it?
Awesome job using your ecb to get newspapers! was the .94 mostly tax? You did great1 I always feel like CVS was a success if I spend $2 or less.
I use a zippered binder and baseball card holders. This is an expensive method and it does take more time to put your coupons away. The positives are you are able to find your coupons so much faster and at the store you dont have to fumble through a stack and risk dropping them all over the floor.
I typically cut and put away my coupons very slowly through the week. I spend an hour here 20 mins there until it is done. Then i start on putting the coupons I find at the store or pulled to use but ended up not using back. I have a ziplock bag that I keep those in until I get around to them.It does seem like organizing them is an endless task:(
To organize my store coupons and catalinas(for a certain product not the save x amount on your next order ones)I use one of those accordion coupon files.
and to store my ecb, rr, oyno cats, and any gift cards i have, i use a cheap mens wallet i toook from my husband.
