February Grocery Totals

We spent $232.03 this month on groceries(goal/budget is $200 or less). This total is after adding back in two rebates I received totaling $16. I didn't keep track of the savings part very well so I do not have those numbers. I know we did not get as much food as we have in previous months(and our total was lower in those months).

3 things that really hurt the budget this month:

1. (and probably the biggest!) I sent my husband out Sundays to get my extra paper and milk. He couldn't help but add 2-4 cartons of ice cream each trip, along with whatever else he wanted...

2. I did not clip my coupons at all this month and I really didn't do much deal chasing. I bought what I wanted for the most part, as opposed to buying what's on sale or free(a lot of the things I wanted did end up being on sale but I would have gotten them if they weren't).

3. I did not do any rebates or shop at the drugstores. I typically buy the money maker items and use that to pay for the things I do need.I am out of ECB and RR. I do have some gift card funds for both stores(CVS and Walgreens), so starting over wont cost too much out of pocket.

3 things I need to do to get back on track:

1. Keep track of my purchases as I make them so I know how much I have left to spend

2. Get the mountain of coupons organized(and mail pet food coupons out to my coupon buddy)!

3. Get back to drugstore shopping and pick up my own paper on Sundays(keep the husband out of the store!)

Being $32 over budget really isn't too bad, but as the number of coupons in my binder goes down(because they have expired/been used and not been replaced by newer coupons) and our "I don't care, I want it" attitudes grow, so will the overage!

Stumble It!

I know that you don't want to be over budget, however I still am impressed. $32 isn't too bad and sometimes one just needs some ice cream:)

lol, he recently quit smoking so the ice cream is his new "vice".

Well, ice cream is cheaper than cigarettes, right?

But you all were also sick this month and you are newly pregnant--so a little overage makes sense...not cents...LOL!

That's still a great month! We had the same thing happen in January, I kinda knew we'd be over and I hadn't used coupons nearly as much. Hubby is also guilty of adding to the list when he goes...so he's now the designated babysitter when I need to shop - that's punishment enough ;)

Sounds like you did a great job. It must be something going around since all my coupons are sitting in a pile and I haven't shopping like I should or keeping track. Hopefully we can both get back on track this month.

Don't ever think that you aren't doing well, Tosha! Fro the size of your family, you do extremely well- even being $32.00 over budget!
