The Neilsen Home Scan Consumer Panel is a program I was a part of for several years but am no longer a part of now. When I first learned they where looking for new participants I was less than eager to share. Then I asked myself why did you stay with them for so long if they were so bad? The truth is they weren't that bad, my life circumstances just changed. When I joined I was really big into the sweepstakes game and entered many of the name brand giveaways. I was a new mom who was home alone with her child most of the time(my husband worked third shift). I liked having influence on the products on the store shelves by sharing with manufacturers what I bought. In my spare time I searched for ways to make a few bucks to contribute to the family(that's why I joined most of the survey sites in 2003, 2004, and 2005).
When I quit (or got booted for inactivity) I was in the middle of a move, my child was older and a bigger handful, I had a part time job, and my husband was on a normalish shift. I was also trying to conceive our second child. I went from having too much time on my hands to not enough. I had more duties to prioritize and Homescan's benefits versus time commitment wasn't worth it to me any more. But it was worth it to me for 2-3 years.
So here is what you can expect from the Home scan panel if you are accepted into the program:
- You will be expected to scan every product your family purchases new(not just groceries, and including vending machine purchases) and input any sales, coupons, or rebates you used on each item, the price and the transaction total
-if the item doesn't have a bar code you will have a sheet of common items without bar codes to scan.
- You will need to transmit your transactions on a weekly basis(you get points for doing this)
-You will receive surveys from time to time and be asked to update your profile yearly(you get points for doing this)
- You will receive small "gifts" from time to time in the mail(pen, travel cup, small magnet fridge calender, key chain, etc- all branded with the Neilsen Homescan Logo)
- You will be entered into their high dollar sweepstakes for certain activities(I never won, but it was fun dreaming of, lol)
-You will also be entered into smaller sweepstakes for certain activities($20-$50)
- Points can be redeemed for prizes in the yearly prize catalog or from one of the specialty prize catalogs(depending on your profile you will have access to different ones)
-when you want to redeem you scan the prize you want with your scanner and the info is sent with your weekly transmission-The prizes arrive in a timely manner.
Please note not all zip codes are needed and once the openings are filled the banners will either disappear or redirect to another program.
