I waited to go to cvs until 5pm(they close at 6pm on Sundays), and was behind this other woman shopping a number of times. She did not look like she was "really" shopping. She had a ton of random things in her cart and she was just walking by some things and tossing them in her cart with out even really looking at what the item was.
She then gets to the checkout before me. She is busy trying to keep the cashier distracted with stories of how her college is about to lose it's status to qualify it's students for federal aid and goes on about how she doesn't know how she will pay for school then. The cashier finishes ringing up her random items and annouces her total($19x.xx!- poor students don't spend that much on random items @ drugstores!). She did not have a single coupon either...
Her boyfriend/husband/roommate? comes up and ask if she remembered the Ensure drinks. She says "no I got slimfast". He says that will work. She then whips out a book of starter checks. The cashier politely informs her they don't accept starter checks. She then insist they aren't starters, and they came in the mail with her other checks. The cashier wasn't falling for it. She says I need to run this by my manager, I'm sure we can not take these but I will double check.
While she is away the two start to whisper, then speak a bit louder about what they will put back, since they have very little cash on them. She insist to him they have NOTHING to drink at home(Not even tap water????). He opens the multipack of slimfast and proceeds to drink a can.
The cashier comes back and tells them she can't accept the starter checks. The girl insist again that they aren't starters, but she will run to the bank and be back. She ask if she can leave the items at the front so she doesn't have to reshop. The cashier says "we close at 6pm today"(it was 5:45pm...). I am wondering to myself what bank is open at quarter till 6pm On SUNDAY. The ones inside stores around here close at 5pm on Sunday.
And then the issue of the opened and unpaid for slimfast comes up. The guy had been drinking it the whole time the girl was talking. He tells the cashier he doesn't have enough cash to pay for the whole pack, can he pay for just the one. The cashier tries to scan the one can but it wont ring up. She tells him it isn't coded to scan by itself. He says "so what do I do"? She motions for him to give it to her and she will take care of it.
The girl then insist he pick a cheaper drink, that there is "LITERALLY NOTHING to drink at home"(again I think, really, not even water?). She again says that the checks are not starters and everywhere else takes them. The guy says he doesn't have enough cash for anything. He ask the cashier if he can just drink the slimfast he opened because she was going to through it out any way. The cashier says no because it needs to be damaged out by the manager.
They finally decide to leave(with nothing, unless they snuck it in their pockets...) and the cashier and I both breath a little easier. I state how scammy the girl felt from the moment I saw her "Shopping". The cashier then tells me she sees this kind of thing too often, and they assume she is stupid because she is a cashier. The cashier(my favorite one there) then hands me 3 rain checks for the school supplies they were out of. How awesome is she- I didn't even have to ask!?
