Our closing date has been pushed back, again! We will not be signing papers(or moving in) until December 22nd. So now we have to juggle moving 3 days before Christmas. Most of the people that we were going to have help us move will be at work during the day and busy preparing for the Holidays afterword. My husband has to work until Christmas Eve also.
I am not sure we will even get to celebrate Christmas this year. We need to be moved out of our old house and have it in returnable shape by the 31st, or pay for another month's rent(I will NOT do that).I think buying a house is more stressful than having a baby.
I know 4 days doesn't seem like a lot, but this time of year it is. We were going to be moved in by Monday and get a tree Tuesday. Now we probably wont even bother with a tree. My daughter was looking forward to having a tree bigger than her for once, but instead she wont even have our tiny 2 footer up.
We did not plan on moving so close to Christmas, our original closing date was November 27th. We wrote the first contract for the property on October 7th. This has just been one big long drawn out mess with a million obstacles to jump over. I am so glad this will be the last time we move for a very, very long time!
We are still very grateful and excited to be purchasing a home this year(and to get the $8,000 credit!). I just needed to vent a little.

Complications and Frustrations

Maybe you guys could celebrate little Christmas on January 9th. My stepmother's family celebrated that and would hit all the after Christmas sales for gifts and decorations. You could still have a tree and the whole nine yards but after you are a little more settled.
That's a great suggestion Tiffany! I have all the present bought and hide away. I don't think the kids would wait to open gifts until the 9th, but they would love to have a tree up even after the Holiday is over. And trees should be really cheap too:)
I am so sorry you are having so many problems. I to had lots of problems when I bought my current home. It was The week that Hurricane Katrina hit and with living in Louisiana that made a big mess. We had to get a new inspection and no insurance companies would write any new polices. So it took us two extra months to get into our house. So I deffinatly feel your pain. Keep your head up and everything will work out.
I love Tiffany's suggestion! :-)
I hear your frustration. There always seems to be glitches. We had so many with the sale of our old house and now the delaying of building our new house that I have just decided not to let any of it get to me.
As long as you are all together on Christmas, it will be okay!
I wiah you good luck on the move and the best for the New Year!
we had same thing happen to us a few years ago. our 1st date was in november, and early december and finally december 27(i think) the day before closing we rented a uhaul truck the largest one and loaded everything that night and then parked it at new house that morning. as soon as we left the signing of a million papers we started unloading, was done with almost everything 2 and a half truck loads and had everyone over for new years eve. it was hectic but it was fun. we also planned on how to load truck so that 1st things off were all bedrooms so we could sleep that night in our new home!! Good Luck!! and Congratuations!!
I can completely empathize. Hubby and I just bought our first home and our closing date got pushed back four times! We only recently closed on Dec. 4 and even that made it hard for us to want to celebrate the holidays - you don't want to be pulling out decorations when you're trying to get everything unpacked. But you could look at it this way - there is no better gift to your family than a home, no matter how much frustration comes with it.

Good luck with the move. Just take one day at a time. You will get everything done. I have moved at Christmas time before. Forget all the decorations and appreciate your house and family and remember the real reason for Christmas. You will have many years to celebrate with the whole nine yards.

I feel your frustration. We are getting the keys to our new place Thursday, Christmas Eve Day!
That will be a quick move in! I can't wait though & the kids still want a tree put up.
Sounds like a lot of people get in a time pinch thanks to things beyond there control when buying! I did go and buy a tree and a few decorations for the kids yesterday. We will take a break from moving tomorrow(Christmas Eve) to put it up and do Christmas presents on schedule. We wont be visiting family this year though. Sometime in January we will probably go see them.
We closed yesterday, but on our final walk through we found another leak in the plumbing. Instead of holding up the closing(which would cost us money to extend our rate and another months rent) we decided to fix it ourselves. I'm hoping it's an easy fix and not to expensive! I don't trust the people the bank hired to fix it right anyway! They had two tries already.
Today we will be moving in the big things(beds, fridge, washer, dryer, couches, table, stove, etc. ) and the boxes I have packed and hopefully getting the plumber out too. We will hopefully be finished by the end of the day on the 26th. Then there are 4 days left to clean. It shouldn't take that long(I think!).
Thanks for all the encouragement and support!
mom1093- WOW! I feel your pain, but I'm also excited. Let them put it up. We will probably leave ours up until the end of January. I feel so bad for the kids missing out on a lot of Christmas this year. We will be baking Christmas cookies in mid January! good luck:)
Tosha,
Good luck with your move! It sounds like you are getting there.
Tosha,
I hope everything is going well with the move. Happy New Year to all of you!
