My daughter has snubbed her nose at new foods since she turned 3 (she is now 6.5). Soup was pretty much out of the question for dinner in our house for that reason. And then adding a 1-2 year old to the mix, things can get messy when he attempts to eat soup.
My easy solution is one of those cereal bowls with straws built in. The novelty of using a breakfast bowl at dinner(and sipping your dinner) makes even my picky girl want to eat at least a little of her food so she can use the bowl. And the boy hardly makes a mess at all. Her bowl is usually half empty and his is completely empty.
If the soup is chunkier, I give them a straw instead. They can sip around the chunks and then eat those once the liquid is gone or the other way around. The straw isn't as effective at keeping the mess under control, but I'm just happy I don't have to fight to get the kids to eat(or let them go to bed hungry)!

Interesting idea. My oldest and youngest will eat just about anything, but my tiny little middle child eats like a bird. Anything that might encourage her to eat a little better is worth a try
I've never seen a bowl like this! I like the idea of a straw - I'll try that with my little ones.
Wow, cool idea, I will have to try it with my toddler if I can find one of those bowls!
I found my bowls at Kroger on an end cap a year ago. They were 4/$5 or something similar. I'll check around to see who else has them.
Let me know how it goes if you give it a try:)
I love this idea. You have to do what works. :-)
ooh... I love that idea, thanks!
Neat tip! I'll have to give this a go with my picky eater.
I bought some of those bowls at Wal-mart a few years ago, so if someone is looking for them you could try there!
Perfect idea! I wonder if it would work with my 18-mo-old. She always pours out her soup everywhere!
Thanks for linking up to Finer Things Friday. :) Katie
